I’m excited to share that earlier this semester, I was awarded the Columbia University Presidential Award for Outstanding Teaching, a heartwarming recognition of the sweat (literal) and tears (figurative) that go into this wonderful profession. A huge thanks to my students for trusting me with part of their education and making every single effort worthwhile and every class memorable, as well my friends, colleagues, and academic home for their support in putting together the nomination and dossier.
“The Presidential Awards for Outstanding Teaching were established in 1996 to honor excellence in teaching at the University. 5 awards are conferred to faculty and 3 awards are conferred to graduate student instructors each year. The Columbia community is invited to submit nominations, and these are reviewed by selection committees comprised of both faculty and students, including prior winners. From this pool of hundreds of nominations, a select group of finalists are chosen. Their departments are asked to prepare dossiers that illustrate their commitment to promoting intellectual development, innovation in pedagogy and design, commitment to inclusivity and diversity in the classroom, and a dedication and enthusiasm for teaching.”
